Inhalte:
This course offers an in-depth exploration of family entrepreneurship, examining the intersection of entrepreneurship, family business, and family dynamics. The aim is to equip students with a comprehensive understanding of the unique challenges and opportunities inherent in family entrepreneurship.

The core of the course is the scientific development of a practical project with a family business. Based on the course content, students will reflect on and analyze the innovation, intrapreneurship/entrepreneurship activities, and the transformation of the family business. They will investigate the role of the entrepreneurial family, employees, executives, and various stakeholder groups. Through the close integration of scientific input and practical coaching, students will be enabled to create a case study based on the practical project with family business executives.

The course begins with an introduction to the basics of entrepreneurship, discussing who an entrepreneur is and the different types of entrepreneurship, including startup, social, female, and family entrepreneurship. The focus then shifts to family entrepreneurship, exploring the fundamental aspects of family firms, the family embeddedness perspective, occupational choice, and the concept of copreneurs and family entrepreneurial teams.

The course further delves into the intersection of entrepreneurship and family business, discussing organizational identity, transgenerational entrepreneurship, value creation, and the resource-based view on family firms. It also covers corporate entrepreneurship, including corporate venture capital, incubation and acceleration, intrapreneurship, and knowledge management.

Lernziele:
Students will learn about the neo-institutional perspective on family firms, understanding the roles of stewards and agents, and the concept of socioemotional wealth. The course also explores the work-family interface and the management of transformation in family businesses, including the paradox theory and the paradoxes of innovation and tradition, and exploration and exploitation.

The course concludes with a detailed study of the flow model of family entrepreneurship, based on the theoretical framework provided by Lumpkin et al. (2011), covering inputs, process, outputs, and context.

Weitere Informationen zu den Prüfungsleistungen:

The group work will involve the presentation of a concept in front of the other students, the coaches, and the practice partner (1/3) [mid-november 2023], as well as the elaboration of the concept as a case study (2/3) [due date: 31 january 2024].

The course will be delivered through a series of lectures, paper presentations, and case study preparations. Students will also have access to online coaching sessions to guide them in their case study preparation and to focus on the scientific aspects of the course content.
