Inhalte: This course examines entrepreneurial thinking and governance structures in a highly relevant context: family firms, with a special emphasis on family governance issues. Family firms are the most prevalent type of firms in Germany and with approximately 3 million firms they are the backbone of the German economy. Family firms behave in a very specific manner due to for example their long-term orientation, their strong regional ties, and their value orientation. Interdisciplinary research as well as an entrepreneurship education approach building on the specifics of family firms are especially focused in this part. Relevant theories as well as recent empirical analysis are introduced, discussed and applied.
Lernziele: Students build a solid knowledge base regarding recent theoretical and empirical work in the areas of family firms with a special emphasis on family governance issues, and they learn to challenge and apply this knowledge accordingly.
Weitere Informationen zu den Prüfungsleistungen: Details regarding the examination of this course will be dealt with at the beginning of the course in line with the teaching agreement between couse facilitator and participants. Weighting of the examination performance: Midterm 50 %; Endterm 50 %
Literatur: Recent papers, books and case studies regarding family firms and family governance. A list of the literature will be provided at the beginning of the course.
