The course includes an overview of the sources of law, the legal nature of the EU and its legal relations with other European states and other international organizations in Europe. Lernziele:
The European Union is a community of states that can best be described as a community based on the rule of law. Central to the understanding of the European Union is the fact that it aims to achieve political unity through economic integration. To this end, the Union aims to create a single legal area across all member states, which should enable the free movement of goods, persons, capital and services across national borders. In this respect, a study of the European Union is incomplete if the legal foundations and mechanisms are not known. Accordingly, knowledge of European law is an indispensable prerequisite for any employment in the European institutions (apart from employment in political offices). The aim of this course is to impart this basic knowledge of European law.
