Inhalte: Content: - Biophysical embeddedness of the economy, the concept of sustainability and the role of energy - Planetary boundaries for economic activities and ‘limits to growth’ - Preferences vs. needs, Raworth’s doughnut model – degrowth as a solution - Challenges for transition to a sustainable economy - Demography and its interaction with economy and nature.
Lernziele: Qualification Objectives: Upon completion of the module students have gained a deeper understanding about the fundamental connections and interdependencies between natural resources, the economy and social development. They understand the established discussion about the ‘limits of growth’ and are enabled to critically reflect on it. With the demographic development, a particular facet of sustainability is analyzed in more detail. Students learn how to assess its implications and are familiar with various degrowth approaches.
