Course content:
The general topic of this course are financial systems in developed and developing countries.
The language of the course is English.
In substance, the course is composed of three parts. The first one covers topics on international or cross-border banking and finance (=IB). The topic of the second part are comparative financial systems in advanced or industrialized countries (=CFS), and the third part are financial systems and financial institutions in developing and transition countries, especially microfinance (=Development finance or DF). Two thirds of the 18 sessions are lectures and one third is dedicated to student presentations.
The student presentations will be on either an internationally active bank or the financial system of one country, which is not covered in the course, or one microfinance institution or a microfinance support institution. Each student presentation should be 30 minutes long so that in one session we can have three such presentations per 90 minutes session. The list of the eligible banks, countries and MF-institutions will be announced in the first session.
As it currently stands, the course financial systems will take place in six weeks on Thursdays from 19:30 to 21:00 and on Fridays from 10:00 to 14:15 (with a break for lunch). But as this may change, course participants should please find the exact time and location of the sessions on the ZU Intranet.
