Course content:
The beginners course German for Foreign Students provides an introduction to the German language. Prior knowledge of the language is not required. The focus is on language in its every-day and professional application.
By means of communicative tasks the four skills listening, speaking, reading, and writing will be trained intensively. Thus, a practically-oriented foundation of the German language will be established.
Pre-requisites: none

In addition to lectures in the beautiful surroundings inside the Univerity complex the online module "quizlet" will be used individually by all participants. Therefore it is necessary to sign in to "quizlet" prior to the start of the semester. The worldwide free student version of the online module is sufficient enough to provide all students with this interesting teaching tool.

Educational objective:
The course aims at learning fundamental language skills with the following objectives of the beginners level:
| SPEAKING: The students learn to understand familiar and every-day expressions and simple sentences and to answer questions of this type. They should be able to communicate in a simple way in every-day life and at university. Students can give information on themselves, are able to use polite expressions in socializing, and can ask for clarification in conversations.
| WRITING: Students learn how to write short, simple texts such as postcards and notes. They can enter personal details into forms and describe where they live and study.
| READING: They learn to read and understand short texts and signs. They understand familiar expressions in texts and instructions.
| LISTENING: The students learn to understand questions and instructions as well as numbers and prices. Familiar expressions and sentences in conversations are understood when they appear in a familiar context.

The course also includes the teaching of forms of socializing and working methods to encourage communication in the foreign language, to organize not only oneself, but also  the learning process (e.g. vocabulary building). The focus will also be on learning opportunities to show that language learning can happen without even noticing it.

Further information about the exams:

Each assignment that has not been passed (or been missed due to absence) can be repeated once. As a rule, the repeat examination will take place one week after the first attempt.

Additionally, 80% attendance is mandatory in this course.
