Course content:
More than ever, our cognitive processes seem to be organized via visual media. In view of this development, it is all the more important to take a closer look at the inherent logic of pictorial order and its dynamics. But what methods and techniques are available to us for image reflection?
Using different approaches of image analysis, we will deal with our own seeing and bring the conditions of our seeing into consciousness. Furthermore, the seminar seeks to approach the question of the "mode of being" of images and to explore the possibilities and limits of visual representation and cognition. For this purpose, we will analyze standing and moving images from art history, the current daily press and freely chosen material of the participants.
The curriculum of the course is designed in close consultation with the participants. A one-day excursion is also planned.
Educational objective:
The aim of the course is to get to know and practice image-analytical approaches. In addition, the participants further develop their perceptive skills.
