Course content:
This course addresses the responsibility of corporations to ensure sustainability of their business ventures, and provides an overview of the role of compliance mechanisms to this end. The course explores philosophical approaches to contemplate the responsibility of corporations to pursue transparency and ethical behaviour while taking into account the impact that any business activity may have on multiple stakeholders, including employees, the environment, society, and the larger economic environment. The course will use examples from the developed European context, while also illustrating how corporate responsibility and compliance operate within a developing economy context, using examples from South Africa.
