Course content:
Cultural policy pursues the mandate of shaping the cultural sector on a content-related, institutional and process-related level. For this purpose, objectives, measures and instruments are developed and implemented which also address current socio-political challenges such as diversity, participation or inclusion. This methods module is dedicated to the question of how cultural policy can be researched in a contemporary, innovative and targeted manner using qualitative research methods. For this purpose, research designs, instruments and research strategies are examined and analysed. The seminar includes a theoretical part as well as a practical part in which exemplary applied research is carried out. The focus is on qualitative interviews (e.g. conducting an expert interview).
Educational objective:
In the seminar, students learn about different research approaches and methods in the field of cultural policy studies. The students learn to examine concrete examples from practice, to plan their own interviews conceptually (development of interview guidelines) and to conduct and analyse them scientifically. In doing so, students learn to develop and reflect on their own scientific research questions and to present the results. This knowledge can be applied in the transfer to Bachelor and Master research projects.
