Since about 2014, the conflict between China and Russia on the one side and a US-led group of democracies on the other have gained momentum. Initially, many governments and observers have ignored the emergemce of geopolitical and geoeconomic conflict. Since Beijing has been waging an economc war on Australia, the conflict has been escalating. Today, the war in Ukraine is shattering the foundations of international co-operation.-

- What are the effects of the New World Order on trade?

- Will globalization end - like it ended after the collapse of the gold Standrad in 1933?

- Why is autarkic thought making a comeback?

- Are the sanctions of OECD-countries contributing to the decline of international finance - thereby hurting themselves more than China and Russia?

- Is the return to a Bretton Woods world - characterised by very limited levels of economic exchange between the USSR and Western countries - possible? Is it desirable?

- Will corporations have to put emphasis on the establishment of cross-border production networks with allies?

- What are the economic effects of sustained conflict between Russia, China and the western club for developing countries?

Educational objective:
Students will analyze the effects of geopolitical conflicts on the economic sphere. They will discuss the advantages and drawbacks of individual measures, e.g. economic sanctions.
