The course comprises the following topics: case studies on the explaining power of major European integration theories, the power structure between European Commission, European Parliament and the Council, public opinion and the legitimacy of EU governance, the EU's performance in selected policy fields, in particular its influence as global actor.

Moreover, students develop the ability to identify important hurdles to EU decision-making as well as sources of implementations and enforcement problems.
