Course content:
The course will focus on the sociology of love and sexuality. It argues that love is a very good point of entry to analyze the key concept of modernity. It shows that some of the key phenomena of modernity – human rights and capitalism—took place within the sphere of the intimate and have profoundly transformed its meaning. The course examines the importance of the ideal of freedom and equality in changing gender relationships and the impact of capitalism in patterns of courtship.
Educational objective:
The educational objective is to be able to analyze romantic love sociologically, gather data and analyze it through adequate theory.

Midterm: 40%, Endterm: 60%
Students will be asked to do a short presentation (40%) and to write a short term paper (60%) on one of these two aspects of emotions. They will be asked to discuss one emotion based on the empirical analysis of one political emotion or one emodity.
Class Participation is mandatory and a prerequisite for admission to Mid-&Endterm.
