Inhalte:
This course provides students with the background and conceptual tools they need to understand the relationships among actors in the international system. These relationships are mainly characterized by anarchy, a condition that exacerbates many of humanity's greatest problems including war, pollution, famine and inequality. The course is grounded in an awareness of current events. It will introduce students to a wide range of international phenomena including the causes of peace and conflict, socio-economic development, globalization or the global environmental crisis.
Lernziele:
- Ability to apply abstract theory and research methods to understand contemporary events within international politics
- Ability to apply theories to case studies
- Understand how the lens used to view the world shapes understanding of the world, its problems, and possible solutions.
- Develop critically engaged citizens with an interest in world politics

As this is essentially a reading course, students are expected to come to class prepared to discuss all assigned readings.
Grading:
1. Two oral presentations (30%)
2. Class discussion (20%)
3. Final take-home exam (50%)
