Inhalte: The aim of this seminar is to understand the role of emotions, motivation, action, and self-control in communication better. We define emotion, motivation, action, and self-control at the beginning of the seminar. How do these concepts interact with each other and how do they influence cognition, affect, and behavior. Questions like “How do emotions affect motivation?”, “How does motivation affect our actions?” “Why do we often not achieve our goals, even if they are important?” “What is the problem with new years proposals?” What does current psychology mean be unconscious (implicit) and conscious (explicit) motivation? How can the power, and the achievement motive influence behavior? Do social motives as for instance the affiliation motive influence our actions? How can we measure Emotions? How can unconscious motives be measured? Can social, affective and cognitive neuroscience contribute to these topics? Theories and especially experiments that try to answer these questions are presented and discussed. If possible, we will try to replicate these experiments in the seminar.
