Inhalte: Content: This course focuses on the study of intercultural communication though an exploration of theoretical approaches and empirical case studies. Among the topics to be discussed are the global context (survival versus extinction), globalization and hybridisation of cultural expressions, cultural conflicts and the role of religion, cross-cultural stereotyping , the significance of (cultural) human rights, the development of intercultural communication competence, and the futures of intercultural conversations. The leading question is: can humanity converse in peaceful ways across cultural borders? Teaching format: interactive lectures and class discussions. Teaching method: group assignments, case studies and simulation exercises.
