Inhalte:
This seminar introduces students to curatorial practices and techniques of displaying. Drawing on a wide range of media such as images, films, texts and visits to exhibitions and events, the seminar will provide an overview of the history of displaying. By this, the seminar aims to foster a deeper understanding of curatorial practices past and present.

The main focus of this class will be on so-called “Socially Engaged Art” and the relation between art and politics. In cooperation with Andrew McNiven, who will be in charge of the practical part of the module, we will prepare short interventions for the conference “From Social Sculpture to Art Related Action” taking place on October 28th and 29th 2016 here at ZU. In addition, we will support Christof Salzmann who will be preparing a contribution of the “Archive for Social Sculpture” to the exhibition “Who Pays?” at the Kunstmuseum Liechtenstein in spring 2017.
The participation in the conference in October is compulsory and part of the seminar.

The final exam will be a curatorial concept, written by groups of two or three participants. It will ask students to unfold a curatorial idea in respect of the theoretical considerations of the course.

Lernziele:
Students become familiar with approaches, theories, and techniques of staging and curating.
