Inhalte: In this introduction to media theory, we will explore various dimensions of the term "medium" (eg. the carrier of a message & the place of the "in-between") and consider the specific materiality of different forms of medium, including voice, writing, silence, the book, the internet. Historical, theoretical, social and political dimensions of various media phenomena will be taken into account, providing a rigorous introduction to media philosophy.
Weitere Informationen zu den Prüfungsleistungen: Students will work in groups to present dossiers on the various topics covered in the class (one dossier/group per session). The groups will be set up in the first two sessions and the seminar plan developed accordingly. The dossier presentations, accompanied by written material, will consitute the examination/Prüfungsleistung.
