Inhalte:
In this course, we will examine how network analysis can inform our thinking about a variety of social phenomena, including the emergence and stabilization of social norms, how ideas spread within and across social communities, and how interpersonal networks influence opinion formation and the outcomes of political processes. Students can familiarize themselves with specific network-analytical tools and how to incorporate these into their own research. We will use well-known and often reanalyzed datasets to demonstrate the relevance of social network analysis in different fields of application. Prior experience in computer programming is desirable but not a requirement.

Please note that attendance of the Introductory session on October 6th is mandatory.

Lernziele:
The focus of the advanced course is on generative models of social networks and how these can inform inferences about social phenomena more generally. Participants will receive an introduction into Exponential Random Graph Models.

Weitere Informationen zu den Prüfungsleistungen:
Participants develop a short research proposal. Details will be discussed at the (mandatory) introductory session.
