Inhalte: In this seminar, we will explore the motivational, emotional, and actional determinants of communication. We define these concepts and delineate them from each other. The first focus will be on motivation and questions like: Which situational aspects and individual difference underly motivation? What distinguishes explicit from implicit motives? How do people set goals and how can they attain them effectively? The second focus is on affect and we will address questions like: What are emotions and how can they be measured? How do emotions interact with motivation and how does this influence actions? Throughout the seminar, we will review empirical research on these questions. We will draw upon a broad range of methodological approaches, including behavioral experiments and the assessment of neurophysiological correlates.
Lernziele: Students will familiarize themselves with essential theories and findings regarding how motivation, emotion, and action shape communication.
