Mass media are constantly evolving, as are their uses and their role in society. For the last decades, the digitalization of traditional media, the rise of "digitally native" and mobile media, and the growing importance of "big data" have been the subject of much theoretical debate as well as empirical studies. In this seminar, we will discuss media change and digitalization and their consequences both from a production and user perspective. Thematically, we will cover diverse topics such as digital journalism, organizational and political online communication as well as the appropriation of digital and mobile media by the users and their effect on everyday life.
Lernziele:
Knowledge about contemporary theories and empirical findings on media change and digitalization.
