Inhalte: Course content: First, we will define economic development and critically analyze the modernization theory. Second, we will look at different indicators that measure development. Third, we will study classic and contemporary models to explain stagnation and economic development. Fourth, we will learn about the core problems of underdevelopment, poverty and inequality. Fifth, we will discuss population growth and its consequences. Sixth, we will talk about development policy making and the role of market, state and civil society. Seventh, we will critically review international trade theory. Eighth, we will compare different trade strategies. Ninth, we will analyze foreign finance and investment. The aim of the course is that the students acquire a wide socio-economic and global perspective regarding economic development Course prerequisites: Interest in questions related to development economics, motivation to participate in discussions, good English writing skills and team spirit.
