Inhalte: This module deals with aspects of democracy and justice in a global context. It covers both different theoretical perspectives on an international or global scope of democracy and justice as well as empirical examples and challenges, such as, for example, the democratic quality of international institutions and organizations, human rights or migration, as well as the rise of what has been dubbed “illiberal democracies”. Within the framework of this seminar we will discuss the responsibility of states in the international order as well as the status of non-state groups and individuals. Furthermore, we will consider the normative nature of formal and informal forms of cooperation and its relationship to democratic decision making. Students will gain an insight into a dynamic research field in international politics in which perspectives of political theory, international relations and international law are combined.
