Inhalte: „The Understanding Gaze“ – Artistic research project and excursion to south of France with British artist Andrew McNiven, in cooperation with Aalto University Introduction by Andrew McNiven (via skype): Friday 13.09. at 13.00 – 14.30. Excursion to Pyrénées Atlantique region: Wednesday until Sunday, 02.10. – 06.10.2019 Follow-up Workshop: 22.– 23.11. This is an experimental practice-led excursion and workshop led by the artist and academic Dr. Andrew McNiven to the Pyrénées Atlantique region in south west France in which the research photographic practice and approaches of the French sociologist, anthropologist and philosopher Pierre Bourdieu (1930-2002) are explored. The workshop will focus on his early research in the Pyrénées Atlantique region and will involve re-enacting or re-staging something of Bourdieu’s objective methodological approach - ‘the understanding gaze’ through fieldwork to collect material (photographs, video, audio). This material collected will then be used as a basis to develop contributions to the exhibition project ‘Economies of Visibility’ (2019/2020) to be staged at Zeppelin University, Friedrichshafen, in the spring semester 2020. Practical: The workshop will involve a residential visit to the Pyrénées Atlantique (02.10. – 06.10.) followed by a further session at ZU (22.–23.11.) to review and arrange the material for the public presentation as part of the artsprogram project „Economies of Visibility“. The results will be shown on 6th March 2020 on the occasion of the local art night „Kunst-Freitag Friedrichshafen“. The number of participants is limited to 10 persons.
