Inhalte: The general topic of this course are financial systems in industrialized, emerging and developing countries, with a focus on industrialized countries. However, the students can choose for their presentation of financial systems also an emerging or developing country as well. The language of the course is English. In substance, the course is composed of three parts. The first one covers topics on international or cross-border banking and finance (=IB). The topic of the second part are comparative financial systems in advanced or industrialized countries (=CFS). The third part is dedicated to student presentations. The student presentations will be on financial system of one country, which is not covered in the course, with an emphasis also on specific important financial institutions of the respective country. Student presentations can be a group work. Each student presentation should be up to 45 minutes so that in one 90 minutes session we can have a presentation together with a thorough discussion of the topic. As it currently stands, the course financial systems will take place in three weekend blocks, each block starting from Friday 13:30 until Saturday 16:00. Topics are as follows: Introduction and overview of the course (L1) IB 1: Cross-border banking: Who and what? (L2) IB 2: Strategies of large international banks (L3) IB 3: Regulation (L4) CFS 1: The methodology of analyzing a financial system (L5) CFS 2: The German financial system (L6) CFS 3: The British and American financial systems (L7) CFS 4: The French financial system and convergence of financial systems (L8) Student presentations - on national financial systems and their specific financial institutions (SP) Wrap-up and final remarks for paper preparation (L9)
