Innovations and technologies undoubtedly have a major impact on the competitiveness of companies in many industries. Value propositions that are superior to those of the competition lead to better satisfaction of needs and better differentiation of offerings. In times of globalized markets, a focus on technology-intensive products, services and business models is often the only way for companies from high-wage countries to remain internationally competitive.

In this seminar we will discuss innovation and technology management from different angles and apply them to practice-oriented case studies:


  • Innovation and technology strategy
  • Innovation methods, success factors, ambidexterity
  • Business model innovation, lean startup, design thinking
  • Technology development, management concepts
  • Trend research, AI and innovation

Lernziele:
After successful completion of the seminar, students will be able to:


  • assess the importance of innovations as well as technological developments for industry and economy,
  • describe the main innovation processes,
  • distinguish and explain the different types of innovations,
  • distinguish and explain the technology management instruments,
  • understand the specifics of the evaluation of new technologies,
  • analyze business models,
  • estimate the need for information as well as the effects of limited information in management decisions,
  • co-initiate and co-develop an innovation strategy and
  • develop adequate innovation approaches on the basis of real problems.

Weitere Informationen zu den Prüfungsleistungen:
Midterm (term paper, 10-15 p., individual grades, 50%): Systematic development of an innovation and technology strategy for a given company.

Endterm (presentation, 15 min., group grades, 50%): Systematic development of a business model in a given industry.
