Inhalte:
The course introduces rational choice based decision-theories, including expected utility theory. Following the decision-theoretic foundations, we will discuss important aspects of game theory, which is a tool used to explain the strategic interaction of rational decision-makers across all social sciences. Strategic interaction implies that the decision-makers take independent decisions while taking the other’s (re)actions into account. The course provides an introduction to fundamental concepts of game theory. We will discuss static and dynamic games of complete information, static and dynamic games of incomplete information, and the corresponding solution concepts. The course will feature interactive elements, e.g., experiments, which help to better understand game-theoretic models. We will put particular emphasis on critically discussing models of political decision-making and bargaining. The topics will be discussed using examples from political science, economics, and international relations.
