Course content:
How do you actually found a start-up? What financing channels and funding opportunities are there? What makes a good business plan? Which legal form should I choose at the beginning? What criteria does an investor use to evaluate a pitch? And how do you put together the right team?

As a start-up founder:in, it is not enough to have a good idea; you also face numerous operational challenges. The aim of this additional module is to shed light on the first steps as an entrepreneur. The content builds on the theoretical and methodological knowledge of the students and supplements it in a practice-based and application-oriented way.

In this interactive format, the students deal intensively with the founding of a real or fictitious start-up. The focus is on working on their own projects and start-up ideas, on which the students work independently and to which they directly apply the content from impulses and lectures. Accordingly, students must have basic knowledge of entrepreneurship as well as their own start-up idea - preferably in a team.

The three workshop days are dedicated to impulses and the development of a possible start-up roadmap. There will also be pitch training to prepare for potential meetings with investors.

Topics of the two workshop days include.

  •     Success factor problem/solution fit
  •     Assessment of market potential and barriers to market entry
  •     Legal forms, financing options and funding opportunities for early-stage founders
  •     Brand building and branding
  •     Challenges as a founding team
  •     Dealing with uncertainty and risk
  •     Success factors of a business plan / pitch decks
  •     Pitch Training

Successful founders and investors are brought in for the lectures and their impulses are then applied to their own ideas in workshop formats. A pitch presentation takes place on the last day of the course.

The workshop will be held in English - with minor exceptions.

Educational objective:
The add-on is aimed at students from all faculties who are specifically interested in start-up projects or are already working on an initial idea. Accordingly, existing start-up teams can also register for participation.

Basic knowledge in the field of entrepreneurship as well as an own start-up idea are prerequisites for participation. This can also be a new or (as yet) fictitious idea - the first steps towards implementation do not have to have been taken yet. In concrete terms, participants should already be able to present their start-up idea in the form of a business model canvas and in a 3-minute pitch at the start of the course.

If these basic skills are not available or if no idea exists yet, participants should take the workshop "Basics of Entrepreneurship" in advance. This workshop will be offered regularly in Spring 2023 from 08.03.2023 to 11.03.2023 (workshop days: Wednesday, Friday & Saturday) by Clemens Krüger and Franziska Rhein.
